Consultation

We offer consultations to women with high-risk pregnancies. You may be considered high risk if you have any of the following:

Current Pregnancy Conditions:

  • Decreased fluid around the fetus
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Poor fetal growth
  • Preeclampsia
  • Preterm labor
  • Suspected fetal malformation/birth defects
  • Twins, triplets or more

Current Medical Conditions or History of:

  • Anemia – severe or inherited
  • Asthma, requiring medications
  • Cancer
  • Deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolus (blood clot in the lungs) in the past
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease, especially conditions requiring heart surgery as a child, or requiring medications as an adult
  • High blood pressure, requiring medications
  • History of cervical surgery, such as cone biopsy or LEEP procedure
  • Kidney problems affecting overall kidney function
  • Placenta previa, especially if you have had uterine surgery, such as cesarean section
  • Systemic lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
  • Uterine abnormalities, such as bicornuate uterus

Prior Pregnancy with:

  • Baby born with birth defects
  • Cervical incompetence
  • Preterm labor or premature delivery, especially before 32 weeks
  • Severe preeclampsia
  • Serious complications after delivery (hospital stay of more than a week)

You also may be considered high risk if you require medications that may be harmful to the fetus.
