We offer consultations to women with high-risk pregnancies. You may be considered high risk if you have any of the following:
Current Pregnancy Conditions:
- Decreased fluid around the fetus
- Gestational diabetes
- Poor fetal growth
- Preeclampsia
- Preterm labor
- Suspected fetal malformation/birth defects
- Twins, triplets or more
Current Medical Conditions or History of:
- Anemia – severe or inherited
- Asthma, requiring medications
- Cancer
- Deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolus (blood clot in the lungs) in the past
- Diabetes
- Heart disease, especially conditions requiring heart surgery as a child, or requiring medications as an adult
- High blood pressure, requiring medications
- History of cervical surgery, such as cone biopsy or LEEP procedure
- Kidney problems affecting overall kidney function
- Placenta previa, especially if you have had uterine surgery, such as cesarean section
- Systemic lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
- Uterine abnormalities, such as bicornuate uterus
Prior Pregnancy with:
- Baby born with birth defects
- Cervical incompetence
- Preterm labor or premature delivery, especially before 32 weeks
- Severe preeclampsia
- Serious complications after delivery (hospital stay of more than a week)
You also may be considered high risk if you require medications that may be harmful to the fetus.
